Introductions

  • Sat., July 21: Garden Workday, 11 am-3 pm at Garden
  • Sat., Aug. 18: Garden Meeting & Workday, 11 am-3 pm at Garden
  • Wed., Sept. 12: Garden Meeting, 6:30 pm at Garden
  • Sat., Sept. 15: Garden Workday, 11 am-3 pm at Garden
  • Sat., Oct. 20: Garden Meeting & Workday, 11 am-3 pm at Garden
  • Sat., Nov. 10: Closing Workday, 11 am-3 pm at Garden    
Operations Committee
  • Workday priorities: Fix the compost toilet; install bat house; cut back grapevine and make trellis; consolidate wood; weeding; plants kids plot
Membership Committee
  • Check your status: Shana and Tara sent a link, track your requirements.
  • Do your Open Hours! Try and do one 2-hour shift per month.
  • No partying in the garden after 9 p.m.! Please be quiet and considerate, inform other members via email, and keep the garden gate open.
Treasurer
  • Sixty percent of members have paid dues; the rest of you, get it done! If you have financial hardship, talk to Robert and we’ll work something out.
Events Committee
  • Dana will share notes from her Safe Soil Workshop
  • Saturday’s educational talks: Edible and Nonedible Weeds w Winnie
  • Coffee and donuts community events in August + full moon garden BBQ
  • August 24th is the Full Moon Soiree!
Other Business
  • If you have issues about something happening at the garden, please email the Steering Committee rather than the entire membership.
  • Compost Committee: Volunteers, see Peter Ross.
    • We need volunteers to turn all the compost today
    • Brown city compost bins are only for dairy, meat, oily foods, large seeds (avocado, mango, jackfruit), thorny plants, invasives and paper
  • Water Committee: Volunteers, see Miles Lightbody
    • Put half a dunk ring in each water barrel—helps keeps mosquitoes out. If you get a dunk ring in your watering can, return it to the barrel. dd
    • Always close the barrels tightly to prevent mosquitoes breeding
  • BQLT Updates:
    • The July 14th Open Gardens was a smash! Thanks to Kim Lightbody. We invested $80 in a good time for all our neighbors!
    • Greene Garden (2 S Portland Ave, entrance on Dekalb) will need help
    • Check out the fun events at Elizabeth Street Garden.
